Welcome
to the alumni page on the new Bowling Green State University
Athletic Training web site. As you browse the content of this
page and the new website you will notice many recent changes
to the Athletic Training Department here at Bowling Green State
University.
Bill Jones retired in May after nearly 30 years as the Head Athletic Trainer
for Falcon Athletics. Yes, Bill is still around, and rumor has it that he has
been spotted working the score clock at women’s basketball games.
Ed Orr was hired on in June of 2002 and had a major impact on the BGSU Athletic
Training program in his short time here. He recently moved back to Arizona
to become the Head Athletic Trainer for Arizona State University.I, Doug Boersma
was recently appointed to the Head Athletic Trainer position at BGSU. I came
from Notre Dame and have already seen great things happen here. Jonathan
Willey is in his second year at BGSU and works with the men's hockey and baseball
teams
primarily. Alumni Chad
Young was hired on full time and is working primarily with the men’s
basketball team, and Annette
Davidson in her thirteenth
year on staff, continues her duties primarily with the men's and women's soccer
teams. Two new Graduate Assistants will come on board as well to round out
our staff.
One of the most important aspects of our mission is to provide the best and
most comprehensive athletic training services possible to the student athletes
that compete for the Falcons. This could not be done accomplished without the
help of many outstanding individuals. Dr.’s Richard Barker and Jeff Laporte
continue to give invaluable time, energy, and service to our program in general
orthopedics. Dr.’s Charles Marlow and Jeff Baller have lent their expertise
in Podiatry. Dr. Tom Wojciechowski continues his service and support of our
program and his son Ed, has joined us this fall and has been a great addition
to our team. Dr.’s Jim Kettinger and Bob Desmond continue their tremendous
support, along with Joann Navin and the rest of the staff at Health Service
on campus. Our other consultants continue to give their time and support to
our student athletes as well, and we realize that we could not provide the
service we do without their support (please check out the consultants
link for a complete list).
Another important aspect of our program is the many great athletic training
students serving in roles that you once had when you were a Falcon. Our academic
program is currently seeking CAHEEP accreditation. Program Director Chris
Shommer recently completed the long, laborious process of self-study and review
as we now move towards the site visit.
As with any program, we are only as good as those that leave, graduate and
represent themselves, the university, and profession in a positive manner.
As part of the Falcon family of athletic trainers I invite you to become involved
in our program, both clinical and academic. You are welcome back anytime-please
come visit, call, or drop us an e-mail. Let us know what you think of this
new website, our program, or anything else that is on your mind. We welcome
and encourage your active participation, and want to know your ideas on how
we may keep you involved.
Our staff is excited about the many changes that have occurred in the past
few months. It has not been easy, nor without a lot of hard work from everyone
on our staff. A special thanks needs to go to Jonathan, because without his
talent, hard work, and vision this web site would not be a reality. We, as
a staff, look forward to using this site as a way to facilitate communication
with our fans, former athletes, friends, and most of all you-our alumni. Please
browse, check out what is new in BGSU Athletic Training, fill
out our Alumni Database Update Form below, and send us your comments. We would love to hear
from you! Go Falcons!
