Deion Melvin is in his second season as the linebackers coach at Bowling Green. Melvin comes to BGSU after spending one season as the running backs and defensive coordinator at Georgia Southern University.

In his first year with the Falcons the linebacking core of Erique Dozier (112), John Haneline (96) and Loren Hargrove (87) finished first, second and fourth on the team in tackles.

While at GSU he coached a pair of running backs that recorded over 800 yards apiece that ran for a combined 15 touchdowns in his first season as the running backs coach. The Eagles finished 22nd in the country in rushing.

Prior to his time at GSU he spent seven seasons with Missouri State where he held the title of assistant head coach and defensive coordinator. He also coached the linebackers in all seven of those seasons. He was also the recruiting coordinator starting in 1999.

He began his coaching career at Western Illinois (1993-98) where he coached the linebacker position and was the recruiting coordinator and assistant strength coach. In his final year with Western Illinois the defense led the nation in scoring defense, rushing defense and total defense. James Milton, a linebacker under Melvin, earned the Buck Buchanan Award, given to the best I-AA Defensive Player of the Year.

He and his wife Beverly have two daughters, Lywanna and Sherese.
