BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University women's soccer player Leslie Dawley, a freshman midfielder from Westerville (Thomas Worthington HS), collapsed early in the first half of today's Mid-American Conference Tournament quarterfinal match against Buffalo and later passed away. She was 18 years old.

The match was halted with 39:41 remaining in the first half. Dawley received immediate medical attention and was taken to Wood County Hospital.

At the request of Leslie's family, the Falcons and Bulls will resume their match as a tribute to her memory tomorrow at 11:00 a.m.

Statement from BGSU Athletic Director Paul Krebs:
"It is with great sadness that we make this announcement. Leslie's mother and father, Greg and Wendy, were with her at the hospital and have returned home to be with their family. We appreciate the support extended to us from the University community during our time of sorrow. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Dawley family, her teammates, and our coaching staff."

Statement from BGSU Women's Soccer Coach Andy Richards:
"In light of today's tragic events, the game of soccer pales into insignificance. However, with the wishes of the Dawley family and the women's soccer program, we will honor the memory of Leslie Dawley by playing against Buffalo. Soccer is what brought Leslie to Bowling Green and, as hard as it is going to be to play that game, it is fitting to remember Leslie in the game she loves."
